“Working at the sharp end of the debt industry, I am constantly challenged and stimulated by the development and implementation of solutions for both individuals and companies, with the main aim of turning around lives and businesses which have become burdened by unaffordable debt”.
Melanie Giles is a founding member of Jones, Giles & Clay and its predecessor businesses of Jones Giles and PJG Recovery – and has been an active appointment taking insolvency practitioner since 1999. She qualified as a Licensed Insolvency Practitioner with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1986, and since 1999 has become a recognized industry expert in the area of personal insolvency – with specific emphasis on Individual Voluntary Arrangements. Since this time Melanie has assisted over 5,000 individuals to make arrangements with their creditors, and takes great pleasure in confirming a successful completion rate in excess of 90%.
Working with individual clients, means that the solutions sought and proposed must be individually tailored, and Melanie is very proud to have been at the forefront of a profession which is often accused of being more focused on revenue rather than results. Looking to the future rather than dwelling too much on the past, whilst maintaining a flexible attitude and commercial approach to ongoing case management , are the day to day factors which Melanie believes adds to her high success rates. With close links to all major financial institutions, Melanie is able to broker and negotiate financial settlements through a variety of different solutions, to enable her clients to meet their own particular ambitions and aspirations.
Melanie is actively involved in the wider consumer debt arena, and is a founding member of the Association of Professional Debt Management Intermediaries and until recently was a director of the Debt Resolution Forum. She has also recently accepted an invitation to become a technical advisor to the National Consumer Federation – Fairness in Finance Committee, where she hopes to help to direct consumers to have more of a say in the financial products and services they use – particularly where financial difficulties ensue. She also is regularly asked to comment in both regional and national media outlets on matters relating to both corporate and personal insolvency, and was awarded “Insolvency Practitioner of the Year – Personal Insolvency” in 2013 by the Credit Today Insolvency and Rescue Awards.
Melanie lives with her husband and two beloved Jack Russell Terriors in the Vale of Glamorgan, and although professional life still fills the majority of Melanie’s time, she is an active cricket and rugby spectator and a budding knitwear designer.
