Tony has over 28 years post qualification experience in insolvency work, having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1988 and then moving quickly to specialise in that field. He has been involved in a wide range of both individual and corporate insolvency assignments, having worked previously for (what was) Touche Ross in Cardiff and latterly PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) (previously Cork Gully) in Plymouth.
When he left PwC in 2001, Tony set up his own business in Plymouth (Tony Jopson & Co Chartered Accountants) to offer a wider range of accountancy services, but he still specialized in insolvency related work. Shortly after this he joined forces with the predecessor firm of Jones Giles & Clay (“JGC”) and operated a branch of their business offering insolvency services in the South West, from his base in Plymouth.
Tony’s philosophy fits the JGC ethics in that he believes in offering a bespoke service to clients. All clients have individual situations and require tailored solutions within the formal procedures the law dictates. The aim of this approach is to enable both debtors and creditors to achieve fair and hopefully optimum results within insolvency solutions effected by the firm
Outside of work Tony is Treasurer of a Baptist Church in Plymouth as well as Churches Together in Plymouth. He also works one day a week voluntarily for Christians Against Poverty, a national charity seeking to help those most vulnerable in society deal with financial problems. He has various theological qualifications and regularly teaches and promotes the Bible as the God instigated Gospel and way of life for all people.
Tony is married to Hilary and they have one daughter, Abi, who is currently training to be a Chartered Accountant. Recreationally Tony plays occasional golf and regular social football.
